The Nuclear Regulatory Commission has announced a “comment-gathering” hearing, as follows:
This is a Comment-Gathering Meeting. The purpose of this meeting is for NRC staff to meet directly with individuals to receive comments from participants on specific NRC decisions and actions to ensure that NRC staff understands their views and concerns.

The U.S. NRC is holding a public workshop on the technical basis for development of interim staff guidance or communications related to survey and dose modeling approaches for discrete radioactive particles to support license termination. This effort focuses on survey design considerations, including

  • calculation of scan minimum detectable activities, and data quality objectives;
  • internal dosimetry appropriate for discrete radioactive particles; and
  • evaluation of exposure scenarios for DRPs.

Feedback received during the workshop will be considered in determining the need for (and scope and content of) communications or interim staff guidance in this area. Interim staff guidance would be folded into a future revision of NUREG-1757, Volume 2, of NRC’s Consolidated Decommissioning Guidance.

For more information, contact Cynthia Barr, 301/415.4015 (e-mail: cynthia.barr@nrc.gov), or Greg Chapman, 301/415.48718 (e-mail: gregory.chapman@nrc.gov).

Find the meeting notice and agenda here (PDF including registration link).  Reasonable ADA accommodations usually need 10 days’ notice, but contact Anne Silk, NRC Reasonable Accommodations Coordinator, at Anne.Silk@nrc.gov or by phone at 301/287.0745. Determinations on requests for reasonable accommodation will be made on a case-by-case basis.

The in-person portion of the meeting will be held at NRC Headquarters, 11555 Rockville Pike, Rockville, Md.  The virtual portion will be on Microsoft Teams.
